About Malaysia

Malaysia has two similarly sized landmass region separated by South China Sea. One is Peninsular Malaysia, which lies on the Malay Peninsula and the other one is East Malaysia, which is located on the island of Borneo. Malaysia consists of thirteen states and three federal territories. They are:

There are ten local public universities, one international university, six private universities and more than 500 Public Higher Educational Institutions providing undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Malaysia.

Cost of Living

Cost of living in Malaysia varies according to the city where the students live and lifestyle of the students. It is relatively cheap compared to other countries. In 2014, Kuala Lumpur has been ranked the most affordable city for students by www.topuniversities.com. To live a rather comfortable living in Malaysia, students will need to prepare a monthly budget approximately RM 1,500 to RM 2,000 to cover their accommodation, food, clothing, transportation, telecommunication and other daily needs.

Accommodation

There is a wide range of options available for International students in Malaysia. Here are some of the options:

Campus Accommodation

Most colleges and universities offer dormitories. The cost varies depending on the size and location of it, mostly between RM 350 to RM 650 per month. If you are interested in this type of accommodation, please contact the school you will be attending.

Rental Accommodation

Renting a house or apartment, either on your own or with friends is another popular choice for many International students. The price range is diverse, but it is lower than most countries. Mostly ranged around RM 250 – RM 2,000 per month. Before looking for a place to rent, gather as many information as you can about the types of properties, costs and locations.
